Assam: Six Bangladeshi Infiltrators Nabbed In Sribhumi; Deported Back

Assam police apprehended six Bangladeshi nationals for illegal infiltration, deporting them as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration.

SRIBHUMI: In a significant operation, six Bangladeshi nationals, including three women, were apprehended in Assam’s Sribhumi district on charges of illegal infiltration. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the incident on Wednesday, detailing the police action on X (formerly Twitter).

The chief minister posted information regarding the operation, saying that Sribhumi police caught up with the persons early in the morning and then deported them back to Bangladesh. The apprehended individuals have been identified as Ankhi, Misty Khan, Ibrahim Shaikh, Md Yeakub, Reshma Begum, and Lipi Khan. CM Sarma commended the Assam Police for their continuous vigilance, emphasizing their dedication to securing the state’s borders.

“This operation is part of an ongoing drive against illegal immigration in Assam,” Sarma stated, noting that a total of 315 infiltrators has been deported over the past seven months. He reaffirmed the state government's determination to keep an infiltration-free Assam, citing the administration's tough stand in ensuring border security.

Following the recent unrest in Bangladesh, Border Security Force (BSF) have stepped up vigilance along the 1,885-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast. The heightened vigilance is to prevent cross-border activities and maintain the security and safety of Indian territory.

The operation indicates the continuous initiative by Assam authorities to curb illegal immigration and strengthen border security measures in the state.
