DHUBRI: In a significant breakthrough under 'Operation Praghat', the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam has arrested another wanted individual associated with a terror outfit. The accused, identified as 31-year-old Ajibar Rahman, son of Berakata Sheikh, hails from Chinamari village in Dhubri district’s Bilasipara.

The arrest is linked to STF Assam Police Station Case No. 21/2024, in which 13 individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals, have already been apprehended. These arrested individuals were reportedly operating under the direction of Md. Farhan Israk, a close associate of Jasimuddin Rahmani, the chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team.

As per the investigation, the group is accused of carrying out clandestine activities aimed at promoting extremist ideologies and destabilizing national security. Notably, a Bangladeshi national, identified as Md. Sad Radi alias Shab Seikh from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, was allegedly sent to India to disseminate their radical ideologies among like-minded individuals across the country.

The STF has uncovered evidence suggesting the group's intent to bolster the operational capabilities of extremist organizations. The arrest of Rahman brings the total number of individuals apprehended in the case to 14. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the network operating within and beyond the country's borders.

It was previously reported that the Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested 21 individuals linked to extremist activities between March 2023 and December 2024, according to Special DGP Harmeet Singh.

Among them, 16 were linked to Islamic extremist groups, while others were associated with ULFA, Maoist, and Manipur-based outfits. The STF also seized rifles, a pistol, ammunition, a grenade, and IED assembly materials during the operations, highlighting their commitment to curbing extremism and safeguarding security.
