Assam: STF Busts Drug Smuggling Racket, Seizes Heroin in Amingaon

The STF caught a truck carrying drugs in Amingaon locality after getting a tip-off. The drugs were reportedly loaded in Kolasib, Mizoram, and were being taken to a district in lower Assam.

GUWAHATI: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) caught a truck carrying drugs in North Guwahati's Amingaon locality after getting a tip-off. The drugs were reportedly loaded in Kolasib, Mizoram, and were being taken to a district in lower Assam.

The vehicle, bearing registration number NL 01 AE 1147, was stopped and searched by STF personnel, leading to the recovery of Fifty (50) nos of soap boxes/pkts containing heroin concealed in a chamber above the driver and handyman’s seat. The seized narcotics weighed 600 grams (excluding packaging).

The truck driver, identified as Amir Hussain Khan of Pal Haji, Barpeta, has been taken into custody, while the handyman, a juvenile in conflict with the law, has also been detained. Authorities have initiated necessary legal proceedings, and further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, in a major operation, a Central Guwahati Police Department (CGPD) team from Panbazar PS had nabbed Sibu Sarkar at 2 No Railway Gate with 24 vials of heroin (32.63 gms) and Rs 490 in cash. Legal action had been initiated against him. 

In another anti-narcotics operation led by OC Mankachar PS & team, an e-rickshaw had been intercepted carrying 54 codeine cough syrup bottles & 180 Nitrazepam tablets. The seizure had been videographed, and an FIR had been lodged. 

Similarly, anti-narcotics operations had been conducted by OC South Salmara PS and staff at Dhenarkuti, seizing 57 g of heroin and mobiles, among other things. Police authorities had arrested two allegedly suspected individuals and had lodged an FIR against them.
