Assam: Street play Paritran performed in Sivasagar to raise disaster awareness

The Sivasagar DDMA, with ASDMA's support, performed the street play 'Paritran' on January 19 as part of the 'Safe Assam Campaign 2.0.'

SIVASAGAR: With the support of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and organized by the Sivasagar District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), a street play titled ‘Paritran’ was performed on January 19, under the theme ‘Safe Assam Campaign 2.0.’ The performances were held at two locations within the Sivasagar and Demow revenue circles.

The play, aimed at raising public awareness about disaster preparedness and mitigation, was inaugurated by Dr Surajit Baruah, Consultant to the ASDMA, in Sivasagar. In his speech, Dr Baruah emphasized the importance of educating the public about safety measures to address both natural and human-made disasters.

The event was graced by the presence of Meenakshi Permey, Additional District Commissioner (DDMA), as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included Assistant Commissioner Nimashree Dauka, officials from ASDMA, the Deputy Controller of the District Civil Defence Department and social workers.

The play, written and directed by Shantanu Chetia, featured performances by volunteers from the district’s Quick Response Teams (CQRT) and Aapda Mitra volunteers. A total of forty performances are scheduled across the four revenue circles of Sivasagar, Demow, Amguri, and Nazira, with ten shows planned in each circle to reach a wider audience.
