NAGAON: In a shocking incident, Gobinda Singh, the Superintending Engineer of the PWD (Road) department in Morigaon, was severely injured in a premeditated attack by a father-son duo at Purana Chariali in Raha last night here. According to sources as well as the FIR filed by the injured Superintendent Engineer, the incident occurred around 9 pm when Singh was returning home after completing his duties at his office. On his way, he stopped at a pharmacy to purchase some medicines. At that time, Gopal Das(52), a resident of the area, approached Singh and started arguing with him about a bridge constructed over the Kolong River five years ago.  The accused claimed that the bridge was built in a way that obstructed the natural flow of the river. The situation escalated when Gopal Das and his son, Priyanku Das, attacked Singh with sharp weapons. Despite the intervention of locals, the father-son duo continued their assault, leaving Singh with severe injuries on his head and hands.  The driver of Singh’s official vehicle attempted to rescue him but was also attacked by the duo. Later, the police arrived at the scene, rescued Singh and the driver, and provided them with medical treatment.  The police arrested the father-son duo and registered a case (No. 143/2024) against them. They were produced in court today and remanded to judicial custody.
