LUMDING: A suspected thief was caught by locals while attempting a burglary in a railway quarter near Mahalaya Kali Mandir in South Hill Colony in Assam's Lumding on Wednesday evening. The accused tried to break into the house of Raj Kumar Das but was caught red-handed by residents. The locals quickly handed him over to the Lumding police.

The incident comes at a time when thefts have been on the rise in Lumding, with a recent burglary reported in the Forest Tilla area. The police are now investigating if the suspect is part of a larger gang involved in the thefts.

Meanwhile, an intelligence-driven team from the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) uncovered a large stash of stolen electrical materials from a scrap yard in Dakhingaon, Kahilipara.

Led by Bhagaduttapur OP, the team conducted a thorough search, recovering significant quantities of stolen goods. Among the items seized were 220 kilograms of electric copper wire, 4 kilograms of copper AC pipes, and 52 kilograms of silver electric wire. The total value of the recovered materials is substantial.

The police arrested 24-year-old Md Mannan Hussain, a resident of Chaygaon, in connection with the loot. He is believed to have been involved in the illegal operation, and police are currently interrogating him to uncover further details about the source of the stolen goods.
