SOOTEA: A woman was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in the Balijuri area of Sootea on December 29. The deceased, Anamika Das, worked as a caretaker alongside her husband, Mithun Bauri, at the residence of Rajiv Sonar's father, Balbahadur Sonar.
The body was discovered in the early hours of December 30 by Balbahadur, who promptly notified the local residents.
The circumstances surrounding the death have raised suspicions, especially as the deceased's husband, Mithun Bauri, fled the scene shortly after the incident.
The police arrived at the scene and began an investigation to determine the cause of death. Preliminary reports suggest that the couple was originally from Tezpur.
The police are currently attempting to locate the deceased woman's husband, as his potential involvement in the incident is under investigation.
Meanwhile, eariler this month, a tragic incident of domestic violence rocked the otherwise peaceful Niriang Village in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills. A mother of six, including a young toddler, was horrifically set on fire by her husband, suffering severe injuries in the brutal attack.
On Tuesday, the Committee on Empowerment of Women, headed by Chairperson Santa Mary Shylla, visited the survivor. Shylla, deeply disturbed by the horrific act, assured the victim of all necessary support and vowed to seek justice. “This is a heinous crime, and we will not rest until the perpetrator faces the full force of the law,” she stated.
