GORESWAR: With the fervour of the upcoming 76th Republic Day celebrations reverberating through the district, the District Commissioner of Tamulpur inaugurated a handmade Khadi National Flag sale counter near Tamulpur Higher Secondary School. This commendable initiative, organized by the District Administration of Tamulpur in collaboration with the Tamulpur Anchalik Gramdan Sangha, Kumarikata, seeks to highlight the artistry of local artisans and ensure the availability of handmade Khadi National Flags in even the most remote villages of the district.

The inaugural event was graced by the presence of several eminent dignitaries, including  Pankaj Chakravarty, District Commissioner of Tamulpur, Diganta Kumar Choudhury, Superintendent of Police, Tamulpur, the Additional District Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Circle Officer, Tamulpur, and the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Tamulpur Municipal Board.

The President of Tamulpur Anchalik Gramdan Sangha, Principal of Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya, Kumarikata, esteemed retired journalists, and other notable members of the community also attended the event.

In his inaugural address, DC Pankaj Chakravarty articulated the essence of the initiative, saying, “The primary objective of this effort is not only to popularize the beautifully crafted handmade Khadi National Flags made by our talented local artisans, but also to foster a sense of patriotism among the general public, with particular focus on inspiring our youth.”

In a remarkable move to ensure accessibility, a mobile sale van was ceremoniously flagged off by the Superintendent of Police, Tamulpur, and the Chairman of the Tamulpur Municipal Board. The mobile unit is slated to traverse through Tamulpur and Goreswar, spending two days in each area, thereby bringing this meaningful endeavour to the rural communities.

The Tamulpur Anchalik Gramdan Sangha, Kumarikata, which plays a pivotal role in this initiative, has been an unwavering proponent of Khadi and Village Industries since its establishment on February 22, 1971. Supported by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), the Sangha operates a full-fledged Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya in Kumarikata, offering training and opportunities to youth across the North East Region, including Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya. The institution not only provides technical training in spinning, weaving, design, and processing but also instils discipline, equipping trainees with skills and values essential for a bright future.

The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks, acknowledging the unwavering support of all the attendees. The initiative, imbued with hope, promises to seamlessly blend patriotic pride with the promotion of rural craftsmanship, celebrating the spirit of the Republic Day in its truest sense.
