BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Biswarupa Trust, which was formed in the fond memory of eminent playwright and film actor Bhola Kataki of Jamugurihat, presented the Bhola Kataki Memorial Biswarupa Award 2025 to prominent playwright and humourist Tarun Saikia of Biswanath Chariali today. The award was presented at a function held at the Biswanath Chariali Municipality Conference Hall. The award includes a memento, gamocha, anga bastra, and cash prize of ten thousand rupees.
Biswarupa Trust Chairman Swaraj Kataki delivered the welcome address while the programme was moderated by Joint Secretary Satya Borah. The Chairman of Biswanath Chariali Municipality Amarjyoti Borthakur delivered a speech on the life and works of mass artist Bhola Kataki
Award winner Tarun Saikia who received the award in the presence of a number of dignitaries including Deputy Chairman Deepak Saikia, Executive Officer Prayasi Gautam, former Municipality Chairman Dilip Kumar Baruah, prominent industrialist Naren Sharma, chief advisor of Biswarupa Trust and administrative officer Kuntalmani Sharma Bordoloi, Joint Secretary Ranjit Saikia and others, said it was the love of the people. He also expressed his feelings about creating plays.
Noted actor Jyoti Bhuyan and social worker Dr Amal Saikia spoke a few words on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that in the 1980s, Tarun Saikia enthralled the audience of All India Radio presenting the positive picture of the rural society of Assam through his dramas like ‘Gobardhan Chorit’, ‘Ghinai Satolar Itibritta’, etc.
On the other hand, to commemorate the memory of the late artist Bhola Kataki, who came in close contact with Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Phani Sharma, etc., Bhola Kataki Memorial Biswarupa Award has been presented by Biswarupa Trust of Jamugurihat since 2024.
