DHEKIAJULI: In a solemn tribute to the indomitable spirit of the tea tribe community, the Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) observed its 37th Martyrs’ Day at the Trimurti Auditorium in Dhekiajuli on Saturday. The event, organized by ATTSA’s Sonitpur District Committee with support from the Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, and Barchala branch committees, honoured the brave souls who laid down their lives for the upliftment and rights of Assam’s tea tribes.

The ceremony commenced with a heartfelt homage to the martyrs, acknowledging their sacrifices in the relentless pursuit of justice and equality. Community leaders, activists, and attendees reflected on the historical struggles faced by the tea tribes, emphasizing the importance of remembering and honouring those who fought valiantly for their community’s betterment.

Speakers at the event highlighted ongoing challenges, including the demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, fair wages, land rights, and access to quality healthcare. These issues remain central to the community’s fight for recognition and equitable treatment. 

The Martyrs’ Day observance served not only as a remembrance of past sacrifices but also as a rallying point for renewed commitment to the tea tribes’ ongoing struggles. Attendees left with a reinforced determination to continue advocating for the rights and dignity of their community, ensuring that the legacy of the martyrs endures through sustained action and solidarity. Top AATSA leaders Sujit Kurmi and Goutam Nag were among those present at the function.
