SILCHAR: Amid mass public fury against an alleged case of molestation of a young woman inside a running bus, Sribhumi Police acted swiftly and arrested two persons.
Earlier today, the police picked up at least 10 suspects and detained five buses. Sources said that two persons, one driver and the other a helper, were arrested by Badarpur Police. They have been identified as Jasim Uddin Laskar of Panchgram and Abu Salam of Silchar. Tension gripped the bordering town on Tuesday night after the woman alleged that three miscreants tried to molest her inside the moving bus which was coming from Badarpur to Sribhumi. She was later thrown out of the bus after she raised an alarm. Cadres of the Hindu Rakshi Bahini came down to the street and demanded immediate action against the miscreants. The protest continued till late night. Today morning, the Bajrang Dal blocked the road and restricted the movement of vehicles. However, they later withdrew the blockade.
Meanwhile, on verifying the CCTV footage, the police picked up five passenger buses to narrow down the one involved in the incident. The drivers and helpers were interrogated to trace out the miscreants.The young woman, on the other hand, reportedly informed the police that on Tuesday evening she boarded the Sribhumi-bound bus. But noticing only three persons inside the bus who were allegedly looking at her with bad intentions, she asked the driver to stop, but one of miscreants locked the door and tried to outrage her modesty. She then raised an alarm and the miscreants allegedly threw her out of the running bus near Chargola and moved back towards Badarpur. The incident ignited much tension in Sribhumi which lasted till late night.
