GUWAHATI: A tense moment was witnessed at the Srihumi Bypass area on March 23 evening, when two Hindu women were said to be found with two men belonging to another religious group. The tension was escalated by members of the Hindu Suraksha Dal, along with some local residents, who stepped in, leading the police to take all four involved into custody.

The clash occurred at an Iftar party in Thetipathar, where members of one group had invited people from another.

When local groups heard about the party, they went to the location, confronted the people there, and then informed the police. Police arrested the two men and two women and brought them to the police station for questioning.

Residents in the area have voiced concerns regarding increasing nighttime activities at the bypass, citing the frequent discovery of liquor bottles and gatherings of young men and women on motorcycles.

They argue that the location is not suitable for such gatherings and have urged both the district administration and community leaders from Hindu and Muslim groups to take immediate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Until now, officials have yet to make an official statement about the incident, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances of the encounter. Community leaders are being urged to address the escalating tensions and provide security in the area.
