GUWAHATI: On Tuesday 2 November Police arrested a teacher from Hailakandi district for uploading the question paper of the Teachers Eligibility Test on social media platforms.
The exam of Teachers Eligibility Test 2021 was conducted on 31 October. Police hold the accused person after the complaint registered by Mustafizur Rahman the Principal of MHC Higher Secondary School in Cachar district.
Following the FIR lodged against the teacher, police identified the person as Baharul Alom Kausar Barbhuiya who is an employee at MHC Higher Secondary School. He was then taken to the Rangirkhari police station on Tuesday evening. The Superintendent of police of Cachar district said the teacher has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
He was the invigilator at the examination centre of MHC Higher Secondary School which was one of the 60 examination centres in the district of Cachar. The TET question paper was uploaded online after the examination at around 4 PM and went viral in a very short period of time. The question paper shared online had the roll number of one of the TET candidates which have been used for identification of the centre from where the paper was leaked.
While questioning the Invigilator, Borbhuiya admitted that he had taken a photograph of the question paper after the completion of the examination however he has denied uploading the question paper on social media. On Tuesday, Barbhuiya told to media at the police station that he knew that it was illegal to take photographs of question paper but he did it only for reading and with no other purpose. He further said that that he is a teacher by profession and he analyzes all possible study materials.
The booklets are not allowed to share in public until the declaration of exam results therefore taking photographs of the question paper is a violation of the guidelines of the Teachers Eligibility Test. Barbhuiya explained that he had shared and discussed the papers in WhatsApp with his roommate Aszad Hussain who is also a teacher. He said he got to know about the question paper leaked and his involvement in the matter when his friends called him after returning from duty at 2:30 PM.
An investigation on the departments has also been initiated by the Inspector of Schools of Cachar. One of the officials from the education department said that departmental action against him might be taken apart from the judiciary actions. The technical expert group under the police department is investigating the matter to find the link about the initial uploading of the question paper.
On October 31, 2021, the primary TET examination was held across 587 centres in 27 districts and 3, 96,561 candidates appeared in the primary-level TET examination. 2, 30,482 of them appeared in the 'Lower Primary TET examination while 1, 66,079 were candidates for the Upper Primary-level TET.
