TEZPUR: Tezpur Cancer Centre, which is one of the 10 cancer hospitals in Assam under the umbrella of Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) headquartered in Guwahati, celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day. ACCF is a not-for-profit joint venture of Government of Assam and Tata Trust. The day started with the state anthem sung by the chorus team comprising of staff members, followed by an inaugural speech by Medical Superintendent Lt Col Dr Sanjib Hazarika Retd, wherein he highlighted the yeoman service that the centre has rendered to Tezpur and the neighbouring areas by treating over 3437 new patients, 786 Radiotherapy patients, held 9473 Chemotherapy sessions with an OPD footfall of 24,822 patients. He also informed that another 7 similar hospitals are at various stages of completion and expected to be operational by 2026.Lamp lighting was done by the invited guests namely, Assam Gaurav Manoj Basumatary and eminent writer, author, thought leader Dr Sarita Sharma, PhD, along with Dr Hazarika. Basumatary spoke about the valuable contribution of TCC, which is a dream of Ratan Tata, philanthropist and industrialist, to this remote part of the country. Dr Sarita Sharma lauded the wonderful approach that the COP team is taking and mentioned that more awareness needs to be created in the rural areas and last mile delivery approach needs to be implemented to reach these far-flung areas.
