TEZPUR: Tezpur University inaugurated its grand 60-day Yoga Mahotsav with an inaugural ceremony held at the community hall on April 23. The event marked the countdown celebration for the upcoming 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), 2025, reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting holistic wellness through the practice of yoga. The programme commenced with a starting note, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and Mantra Yoga recitation. Prof Papori Baruah, Chief Coordinator of TU Yoga Mahotsav 2025 and Head, Centre for Yoga and Sports Sciences, delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the evening. Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University, graced the event as the chief guest and inaugurated the Mahotsav. In his address, Prof Singh highlighted the rising mental health concerns among young individuals and emphasized the role of yoga in fostering emotional resilience. “Our youth, in particular, face unprecedented pressures to meet expectations, frequently resulting in significant mental health challenges. Yoga offers a pathway to greater calm, stability, and, most importantly, happiness. Therefore, dear students, I encourage you to find some time to practice Yoga for your well-being.” Following the address, the audience witnessed a vibrant yoga demonstration by university students. The session concluded with a guided meditation by Yoga Coach Partha Pratim Das and a vote of thanks by RR Singh, Convenor of TU Yoga Mahotsav and Assistant Director of Physical Education.
