LAKHIMPUR: Three police officers of Panigaon Police Station in Lakhimpur district of Assam have been arrested on a charge of taking a bribe. The arrested officers are Constable Hiranya Kumar Patgiri and Home Guards Dilip Kalita and Dipak Mili.
Reports indicate that the trio allegedly extorted a sum of Rs 21,000 from a local resident, Rajkumar Doley, whom they accused of involvement in cattle smuggling activities. The case has led to serious corruption charges against the police force and has triggered immediate action by top authorities.
After the complaint, the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panigaon Police Station, Satyajit Borah, and Sub-Inspector Khiroda Saikia were suspended on suspicion of involvement in the case. Suspensions are an indication of how serious the Assam police administration is, as they would like to keep their ranks clean and accountable.

The accused, Padmeswar Bora, the Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) and Mahim Debjit Saikia, Head Teacher of Rongpur Betani LP School, were arrested following a complaint lodged by a Senior Assistant in the BEEO's office in Narayanpur, Lakhimpur district.
