BOKAKHAT: In more than twenty villages under the Khumtai revenue circle of Golaghat district, the widespread operation of illicit liquor brewing and distillation has been seriously affecting the educational and social environment. Notably, within the jurisdiction of the Khumtai Police Outpost, including areas like Khumtai Athukhua Chuk, Khumtai Tea Estate, Chongkola, Kachupathar, Baruagaon, and Gelekiyal, the emergence of these illegal distilleries has led to frequent altercations and disturbances, disrupting the peace of society.

Especially in rural areas, during the evening study hours of students, some individuals consume illicit liquor and create chaos. Although there is an excise department in Golaghat district, it has failed to eliminate the booming illicit liquor business in the greater Khumtai revenue circle.

In short, local conscious citizens have raised serious concerns over the failure to shut down these illegal liquor operations. Ironically, even though the Golaghat District Excise Department often publicizes photos of raids and demolitions of illegal liquor sites on social media, they have not been able to dismantle a single distillery from the villages in the greater Khumtai area.

Concerned about the educational, social, and economic degradation in these villages under the Khumtai revenue circle, the conscious public has urged the district excise department and Golaghat District Police to launch a comprehensive campaign to eliminate the illicit liquor menace.
