Assam: Tinsukia District Journalists’ Body Celebrates 50th Establishment Day

The Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA), which was formed on November 30, 1975, celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a day-long programme held at Sadiya College on Saturday.

DOOMDOOMA: The Tinsukia District Journalists Association (TDJA), which was formed on November 30, 1975, celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a day-long programme held at Sadiya College on Saturday. 

The programme got underway with the hoisting of the flag by Vice President TDJA Ratul Kalita, while Secretary TDJA Ranajyoti Neog initiated the Smriti Tarpan. On the other hand, Samarjyoti Gogoi, President, Sadiya Press Club, led the plantation of tree saplings.

Thereafter, an on-the-spot news story writing competition was held among the school students. Out of more than one hundred students who took part in the competition, Antarikhya Buragohain of St. Thomas High School bagged first prize. The second and third prizes were won by Pahi Gogoi of Sadiya HS School and Abhijit Buragohain of Sadiya College, respectively.

The programme of intimate discourse amongst the journalists fraternity was inaugurated by Dr. Bhupen Chutia, Principal, Sadiya College. The programme was attended by the scribes from the respective press clubs of Sadiya, Saikhowa, Doomdooma, Kakapather, Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, and Jagun under the jurisdiction of TDJA. Prior to the start of the discourse, one minute of silence was observed in memory of the departed journalists of the District Journalists body.

The Secretary, TDJA Ranajyoti Neog, moderated the whole proceedings of the programme and senior journalists Himen Bhattacharya, Amulya Khataniar, and Dhiren Deka reminisced about the works and deeds of the bygone days and thankfully acknowledged the contributions made by its various predecessors, dead and alive. In the afternoon the executive meeting of the TDJA was held, and several resolutions were adopted regarding various grievances of the journalists and on socio-economic problems.
