Assam: Tinsukia Municipal Board takes responsibility to repair road

In the wake of extreme inconveniences faced by the public of Tinsukia following heavy road damage, the TMB has taken responsibility to restore the road before the onset of monsoon.

TINSUKIA: In the wake of extreme resentment and inconveniences faced by the public of Tinsukia following heavy road damage arisen out of unscientific laying of water pipelines, the Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB) has taken responsibility to restore the road before the onset of monsoon. The damage was so extensive particularly in narrow road that the pedestrian let alone of vehicles have been finding difficult to manoeuvre.

Addressing a press meet on Saturday, the chairman of TMB, Pulak Chetia assured that all roads within the municipal area that had been damaged will be repaired and restored with an amount of Rs 3.5 crore from the grant of 15th Finance Commission. He stated that the tender to this effect has already been floated and once processed the work will commence soon with target to finish the stipulated works before monsoon. Chetia informed that the Water Supply Scheme was started in 2014 in 3 phases with cumulated sanctioned amount of Rs 96.19 crores. With 83 per cent of work completed so far in phase I and II, Rs 63 crores has been released to the contractor firm-CEEPL while under Phase III ongoing works that has caused immense sufferings Rs 28.73 crores had been sanctioned though fund was not released to the contractor in view of public complaints.

The chairman Chetia further said that a comprehensive road map for Tinsukia town has been prepared in consultation with police and district administration in respect of vending zones and ‘no parking area’ while traffic and e-rickshaw menace with encroachment issue would be taken up soon.
