GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government is working to promote the ideals of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. In collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the Assam government is undertaking the development of the Namsang Namghar Complex with an investment of Rs. 2 crore.
This initiative is aimed at furthering Srimanta Sankardev's vision of universal brotherhood. The project reflects the government's commitment to preserving and spreading the teachings of the revered saint.
Earlier this month, CM Sarma inaugurated the upgradation project at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport to improve passenger convenience and travel experience.
The upgradation included the expansion of entry lanes from eight to fourteen and departure lanes from three to four, along with the addition of four new DigiYatra gates. The security check-in area was expanded from 300 to 450 square meters, with more screening queues and new furniture.
A 140-meter architectural wall was constructed, along with 300 square meters of new gardens. Retail, food, and recreational facilities were also upgraded to provide a better travel experience.
CM Sarma highlighted that the entire project was completed within two months to enhance the airport’s facilities and prepare it for the Advantage Assam 2.0 event. He also expressed confidence that the new terminal at the LGBI airport would be finished later in the year.
The upgraded terminal is expected to strengthen LGBI as a key hub for Southeast Asia. Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, Chief Airport Officer Ashwin Naronha, and several other dignitaries attended the event.
