Assam To Launch Its Own Satellite ‘ASSAMSAT’: Minister Ajanta Neog

The satellite is designed to deliver a stable and uninterrupted flow of vital data necessary for implementation of sophisticated projects.

GUWAHATI: In a historic move, Assam will soon have its own satellite, titled 'ASSAMSAT', a major leap in the application of space technology for development and governance in the state. The disclosure was made by Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog during the unveiling of the 2025-26 state budget in the Assembly on Monday.

Minister Neog informed that the satellite is designed to deliver a stable and uninterrupted flow of vital data necessary for effective implementation of sophisticated socio-economic projects. The exclusive satellite will greatly improve a number of sectors, such as agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure development, border security and policing operations.

The ambitious initiative will be implemented in association with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), which functions under the Ministry of Space. The project places Assam as a progressive state, utilizing space technology to enhance governance and public services delivery.

Apart from this, the Assam government plans to engage college and university students in the experimental development of the satellite to promote innovation and motivate future scientists and engineers. The education program will be conducted in association with IN-SPACe and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

With the commissioning of ASSAMSAT, Assam will be capable of making great strides in the space sector, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to enhance administrative efficiency and bolster security measures in the state.
