SRIBHUMI: Two Bangladeshi nationals, Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar, were apprehended by Assam police in Sribhumi district during a massive operation on the night of March 17. The arrests were made as part of ongoing operations to maintain a tight vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, with an aim to curb illegal infiltration.
After the arrests, the two men were immediately deported to Bangladesh, affirming the state's resolve for border security. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for their alertness and swift action.
In a post on X, he stated, “Stern action against illegal infiltration. Continuing with their strict vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border, @sribhumipolice intercepted 2 Bangladeshi nationals and pushed them back. Irfan Khan and Nurul Afsar. This strict monitoring by @assampolice will continue. Good job.”
The Assam police have been actively involved in patrolling the border area to stop illegal crossings, which have been a point of concern for local authorities. The recent arrest indicates the continuing issues faced by law enforcement agencies in controlling border security and the need to have a strong surveillance system.
Days prior, the Chief Minister posted information regarding a separate operation, stating that Sribhumi police had apprehended some individuals early in the morning and subsequently deported them back to Bangladesh. The detained persons were identified as Ankhi, Misty Khan, Ibrahim Shaikh, Md Yeakub, Reshma Begum, and Lipi Khan. CM Sarma commended the Assam Police for their continuous vigilance, emphasizing their dedication to securing the state’s borders.
