DOOMDOOMA: With a view to creating awareness among the people about proper food, a two-day long Proper Food Fair got underway at Chaliha Nagar ground, Tinsukia town on Wednesday. The fair was officially inaugurated by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pabitra Kumar Das by lighting a lamp. “Eating habits are closely related to our diseases. Therefore, we need to be properly aware of what we should eat, what we should not eat, and how we should eat it,” he said and added that there was a need to inform the people about the truth through such fairs.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Joint Director (Health) Dr Jayanta Bhattacharya, District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO), Bikash Sharma, and Assistant Commissioner Bombi Kumari.
Thereafter, the technical session was attended by Mrinmay Chetia, Head in-charge of Tinsukia Agricultural Development Center, as a resource person. The second technical session introduced the duties of small food vendors for food safety.
A fair of local food was also organized in conjunction with the event. In the afternoon, local MLA Sanjay Kishan visited various shops of the fair and expressed his deep satisfaction and addressed the people present there. In the evening, a cultural programme was organized.
On the second day of the programme, a quiz competition was held today among the students of classes VI to IX. A food competition, prepared by the pearl millet, was also held as a part of this food fair.
