KOKRAJHAR: Police arrested two officials, Executive Engineer and Deputy Officer of Bongaigaon Public Works Department (PWD) in connection with the alleged suicide of a female engineer, who had accused them of mental harassment in a letter written shortly before her death.
Sources said that the arrested officials of PWD, Bongaigaon, included Dinesh Sharma, Executive Engineer, and Aminul Islam, Deputy Officer, of the concerned department.
Joshita Das, originally from Silpukhuri, Guwahati, had recently been posted to Bongaigaon and was working under the PWD (Housing) division. Her body was discovered on Monday at her rented house in Bongaigaon. In her final note, the young engineer reportedly accused the two arrested officials of prolonged mental harassment, which allegedly forced her to take the extreme step. Police have confirmed the alleged harassment and said that both accused are in custody and that a detailed investigation was ongoing.
The incident triggered public outrage, with civil society groups demanding that appropriate action be initiated against the officials involved in the harassment after thorough investigation.
