They went for some work in the Bherbheri village and due to the hot weather, they went to take bath in the Kolohi River's Sokori ghat. As they were bathing on the bank of the river, one of the boys named Jagadish Boro (19) went to the middle of the bank.

Misestimating the depth of the river, Jagadish drowned in the river. While trying to rescue him, the other boys named Rakesh Boro (16) and Bishwajit Mandal (15) were also swept away by the waves of the river. However, Kushal Boro (22) was safe.

A team of SDRF and Chaygaon police reached the spot after an hour after the incident and they launched a search operation in the river. According to the local people, due to the alleged negligence of the police and SDRF, the three boys were not found till the evening.
