SILCHAR: Cachar Police on Thursday night detained AK Bahauddin Chowdhury, a Computer Science student of the Assam University, from his Katigorah residence. Bahauddin was picked up for allegedly promoting communal hatred, defaming individuals, and spreading misinformation through a post in Facebook. In the social media post on April 23, Bahauddin claimed that in India Muslims were killed for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Referring to the recent Pahalgam carnage where Islamic terrorists asked the tourists their religion and then killed 25 Hindus, Chowdhury in his post said, “Where did those sons of swine get the idea that the terrorists were asking names before killing people… The moment something happens they vomit their communal terror-loving mindset all over the internet. These are the real terrorists.”
The post sparked much protest in the Assam University and its students’ body demanded legal action against Chowdhury. Later, the ABVP lodged a complaint at the AUS Police Outpost against Chowdhury who issued an apology on his page. However, the police picked him up from his residence in Katigorah.
