Tezpur: The 15th Annual Cultural and Sports Week of Assam Valley Academy Senior Secondary School, a prominent institution in Tezpur, concluded with a grand and vibrant ceremony. The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Pranab Jyoti Das, Head of the Economics Department at Darrang College, followed by the hoisting of the school flag by the school’s Director and Principal, Abhijit Kalita. The week-long celebrations featured various sports activities, including thrilling games and an engaging tug-of-war competition, held at the public playground adjacent to the school. These events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and drew widespread attention.
A public meeting, presided over by Principal Abhijit Kalita, was held to mark the occasion. Esteemed guests, including Dr. Pranab Jyoti Das, retired professor Narendra Nath Barman, Prince Bhuyan and senior journalist and cultural activist Dip Kumar Kalita, were honoured with traditional Assamese gamochas. The festivities also included the inauguration of a school wall magazine, followed by the launch of a vibrant cultural procession led by Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kalita, Principal of Rangapara College. The procession, held in the heart of Tezpur town, showcased the rich cultural heritage of Assam. Students from various departments and staff of the school participated, presenting innovative tableaus that highlighted academic and social responsibilities. Other tableaus addressed pressing societal issues, while the folk culture and traditions of Assam’s indigenous communities were vividly displayed through performances of gayan-bayan and Bihu.
