TANGLA: Veteran sportsman and village head (Gaon Pradhan) Deben Rabha, a resident of Botabari in Udalguri district, passed away on Sunday night at a private hospital in Guwahati at the age of 67. He had been admitted earlier due to cardiac ailments.
Rabha was known for his active involvement in various social and community organizations. At the time of his demise, he was serving as the village head (Gaon Pradhan) for the villages of Saibari, Jalah, Botabari, Letpetkhat, and Barjalah under the Harisinga Revenue Circle.
He had previously held several significant positions, including Vice-President of the Udalguri District Gaonbura Association, Secretary of the Gaonbura Association under Harisinga Revenue Circle, Vice-President of the Udalguri District Masters Sports Association, and member of the Tangla Sports Association.
Rabha, known for his excellent handwriting, was widely admired. He had also served as a Congress Seva Dal worker in his youth. A fearless and principled individual, Deben Rabha was deeply respected in the community.
His last rites were performed at his native village on Monday. Floral tributes and final respects were paid by various dignitaries and organizations, including Jatin Boro (President) and Roma Bora (Secretary) of the Harisinga Revenue Circle Gaonbura Association, former President of the Udalguri District Sahitya Sabha Gauri Shankar Das, President of the Tangla Regional Rabha Students’ Union Mintu Rabha, members of the Botabari Village Management Committee, Jalah Village Development Committee, among others.
