Assam: Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Flagged Off in Dima Hasao District

Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan flagged off in Haflong with Minister Nandita Gorlosa, officials, and farmers attending the pre-Kharif event.

Haflong: The flag-off ceremony of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a pre-Kharif national campaign launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India, was held with great enthusiasm in the presence of Assam Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Dima Hasao district BJP president Dhriti Thaosen, EM Donpainon Thaosen, MACs Herojit Jidung and John Poitong, Joint Secretary DHAC, agriculture officials, farmers, and other departmental officials at the Cultural Hall, Haflong on Thursday.

The campaign is scheduled to run for twelve days, from May 29 to June 12, across all districts.

The responsibility of organizing and implementing the campaign in Dima Hasao district was entrusted to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao, in collaboration with various line departments of the district administration.

Addressing the gathering, CEM Debolal Gorlosa highlighted the need for the departments of Fishery, Forest, and Irrigation to work in close coordination. He stated that through collective efforts, better support could be extended to the farming community. In addition to rice cultivation, the villagers were advised to increase the cultivation of vegetables like potatoes, brinjals, chillies, and other commonly consumed produce. It was emphasized that vegetables available in the market are not organic, and by growing them locally, both quality and self-sufficiency can be ensured.

Assam Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, also interacted with the farmers during the programme. In her address, she emphasized the importance of farmer empowerment and the adoption of modern agricultural practices. “Through this campaign, we aim to provide them with direct access to scientific knowledge, technology, and government schemes that will help enhance productivity and income,” said Minister Gorlosa.

During the programme, Rasmitha Saikia, Agriculture Extension Officer, briefed the gathering on the main motto of the campaign. She informed that a dedicated team comprising experts, scientists, and representatives from various line departments would visit six villages. In these interactions, farmers will be provided with a platform to share their problems and needs.

Various government schemes under different departments, such as PM-KISAN, PMMSY, and PMKSY, were explained in detail by departmental officers. Informative insights regarding each scheme were shared, and their benefits were highlighted for the awareness of the farmers.

Joining the nationwide initiative, the flag-off ceremony of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan also took place at the community hall in Jatinga on Thursday, simultaneously. The event was inaugurated by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Probita Johori, along with MACs Monjay Langthasa and Fleming Rupsi Syla. Senior Scientist of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Haflong, Parky Gogoi, while interacting with the media, explained the aims and objectives of the programme as well as their initiatives.
