GAURISAGAR: The villagers of Solatia in Jhanji Jamuguri under Amguri LAC (now Sivasagar LAC) in Sivasagar district recently put up a banner citing ‘No Road No Vote’ at the entrance of the village and threatened to boycott the election until the road is constructed.

It is worth mentioning that the village of Jhanji Solotia has a colourful history. According to legend, the Ahom kings settled hulla (16) household skilled Ahom families in the area during the Man invasion. Therefore, the village became famous. There is also another historical record of a 16-foot-deep sink in the nearby Jhanji River. The village is located along National Highway 37 and the roads have not been improved till date.

The villagers said that they made many appeals to the Hatighuli Gaon Panchayat and the local MLA but to no avail. The women of the village also handed over a memorandum to the Sivasagar District Collector. The government, which has been touting the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,’ has not paid any attention to the development of this road. The residents of the area repaired the road themselves to alleviate traffic inconvenience during the rainy season. The villagers have banned political leaders from asking for votes in the village until the road is constructed. They said that the present government has done many development works but it is a mystery why this road is left out. The villagers added that they would boycott the Panchayat and Assembly elections until the road is constructed.
