KOKRAJHAR: Commerce College, Kokrajhar on Thursday marked the World Red Cross Day 2025 with great honour, as the Youth Red Cross unit and IQAC jointly organized a meaningful event. More than 70 students and faculty members participated in the programme, reflecting their dedication to humanitarian values.
The event was chaired by Dr Ratneswar Debnath, Principal of Commerce College, Kokrajhar. On this occasion, Dr Nilotpal Saha, Programme Officer of the Youth Red Cross, highlighted the significance of the day and explained the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross- humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
World Red Cross Day is celebrated globally on May 8, commemorating the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and recipient of the first-ever Nobel Peace Prize in 1901. Notably, the International Committee of the Red Cross has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize four times (1901, 1917, 1944, and 1963) for its outstanding humanitarian efforts.
In his interactive speech, Mohit Nahata, a renowned social worker and dedicated blood donor, emphasized the importance of empathy and compassion in humanitarian action. He also stressed the significance of blood donation as a selfless act of social service, encouraging students to contribute to this noble cause.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Alit Sengupta, Vice-Principal of Commerce College, Kokrajhar, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their participation and commitment to humanitarian values.
