GUWAHATI: Himjyoti Talukdar's Assamese feature film Taarikh has been chosen for the Indian Panorama section of the 22nd Chennai International Film Festival to be held from December 12 to December 19, 2024. As Taarikh is the only entry from Assam and the entire Northeast in this prestigious event, it is a historic achievement for the Assamese film industry.

Produced by Arundhati Sarmah Baruah and Dr. Muktismaan Hazarika, the film features veteran actor Arun Nath, Boloram Das, Swagata Bharali, and Kula Kuldip. The technical excellence of Taarikh is supported by National Award-winning composers Tarali Sarma in the music department and Debajit Gayan in the sound design department. Cinematography has been taken care of by Aniruddha Barua, which adds to the visuals of the film.

The story is about retired professor Durlov Dutta, whose life turns upside down when a new opportunity forces him to come to terms with his past. To highlight this moving cinematic experience, the movie employs a number of themes, including redemption and optimism.

Producer Dr. Muktismaan Hazarika acknowledged the film's selection, calling it a milestone for Northeast cinema. "This recognition is a testament to our hard work and reflects the growing prominence of Assamese stories on the global stage," he said.

Director Himjyoti Talukdar said, "Taarikh is a personal narrative close to my heart. Its inclusion in CIFF underscores the universal appeal of its message.

Supported by the Tamil Nadu government, CIFF is known to celebrate cinematic excellence and promises to be a proper platform for Taarikh to capture the cinematic imagination across the globe.
