MARGHERITA: Assam Tea Tribes Student Association (ATTSA) Margherita branch committee on Thursday called a press meet at Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha Margherita branch office regarding financial anomalies at Bandhan Bank Ledo branch under Margherita Co-District.

Pranjal Baraik, Joint Publicity Secretary of ATTSA Central Executive Committee, said that three staff members of Bandhan Bank Ledo branch, namely Ajoy Das, Subhomoy Saha, Abhijit Dutta, and a woman name Rinku Gogoi of Ledo promised to provide loans to more than 200 tea tribes women residing at the Margherita region but after an enquiry from the Bandhan Bank head office, all four of them were sent to judicial custody as financial irregularities were found in the case.

Pranjal Baraik said that more than 200 tea tribes women, mostly illiterate and belonging from poor backgrounds, were reportedly targeted and had their documents collected to secure loans ranging from Rs 45,000 to Rs 70,000 but the loan amounts which were sanctioned were siphoned off by the three and the woman.

Baraik said that many of the women were unaware of the loans taken in their names, while others had their loan amounts misappropriated by the Bandhan Bank staff, who then shared the funds with Rinku Gogoi and now, the victims of the fraud were paying the interests.

ATTSA has demanded that Bandhan Bank must clear the loans within 15 days and terminate those employees who were involved in the scam. Failure to comply may lead to protests on national highways, as ATTSA Margherita branch committee is committed to seek justice for the affected women, said Pranjal Baraik.
