JAMUGURIHAT/ BISWANATH CHARIALI: An awareness programme on admission to various courses of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) for the academic session 2025–2026 was organized at Biswanath College on Friday, stated a press release. The event was graced by Professor Rajendra Prasad Das, the Vice Chancellor of KKHSOU, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, Professor Das highlighted the university’s mission to reach every corner of Assam to ensure that no youth is deprived of the opportunity to pursue higher education. He urged the gathering to motivate all eligible learners—particularly those unable to pursue education in regular mode—to enrol in KKHSOU and continue their academic journey.
Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, principal of Biswanath College and Centre-in-Charge of the KKHSOU Study Centre at the college, delivered the welcome speech. He spoke about the vital role KKHSOU plays in empowering the youth and working professionals of Assam who otherwise find it difficult to access higher education.
Professor Pranab Saikia, Dean of KKHSOU, elaborated on the university’s policies, academic regulations, and overall functioning. He provided detailed information on the courses offered and noted that KKHSOU is the first open university in the region to implement the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in line with the National Education Policy 2020.
Kokil Hazarika, president of the Biswanath College Governing Body, appreciated the remarkable work done by the university since its inception. Birinchi Borah, Assistant Registrar (Study Centre), KKHSOU, initially welcomed the gathering and outlined the various support mechanisms available at the university’s study centres. Dr Naresh Thakur, Coordinator of the Biswanath College Study Centre, KKHSOU, offered the vote of thanks.
The programme saw an enthusiastic participation of more than 150 attendees, including Apurba Das, President of the Biswanath College Alumni Association. Also present were learners and alumni of KKHSOU, cadets of the NCC wings of Biswanath College, students and office bearers of the Biswanath College Students’ Union, and several members of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. Notable attendees from the community included heads of local educational institutions and teachers, the President of the Biswanath Chariali Nagarik Santha, the Secretary of All Assam Mohila Kobi Mancha, office bearers of the Biswanath Chariali Lekhika Santha, leaders of Biswanath Zila and Chariali Anchalik Student Union (AASU), as well as representatives of the Biswanath Zila Journalist Association and the Biswanath Chariali Press Club.
