TEZPUR: Sonitpur District Agriculture Department, in collaboration with HIL India Limited, a central government agency, organized an awareness and training programme on integrated pest management and the safe, proper use of pesticides at Trimurti Bhawan, Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur District. Around 300 farmers from various agricultural circles of Sonitpur participated in the event.
HIL India Limited official Partha Pradhan provided detailed insights into the correct application methods and necessary precautions for using chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture. Assistant Director of Agriculture Manoj Kumar Narzary briefed farmers on various government schemes related to agriculture.
Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (Sadar) Dr Zakir Hussain raised awareness about the health risks associated with excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. He urged farmers to register at their nearest CSC (Common Service Center) as soon as possible to avail themselves of various benefits provided by the Agriculture Department.
The event was attended by Dhekiajuli Sub-Divisional Commissioner Dyotiva Bora, Senior Agricultural Development Officer Indu Pranjal Bora, Agricultural Development Officers Dipankar Das and Pankaj Barman, District Media Expert Bitupan Saikia, and officials from HIL India Limited.
As a part of the initiative, each farmer received a protective kit for pesticide application to ensure safety during use.
