Pathsala: With the aim of strengthening the market for locally and organically produced agricultural products and encouraging local farmers, the “Local Agricultural Produce Sales Centre” was inaugurated by Mridul Kumar Das, District Commissioner of Bajali district, in the premises of the Bajali DC Office. This sales centre has been established through the joint efforts of the Bajali district administration and the Agriculture Department of Bajali district.
Through this initiative, DC Mridul Kumar Das expressed hope that the market for local and organic agricultural products will expand further. Notably, farmers from Bajali district have already started selling their local and organic products at the centre.
Das started, “With the initiative of the Agriculture Department officials and the cooperation of farmers from Bajali district, this sales centre has been established. At a time when chemically produced agricultural goods dominate the market, posing health risks, there was a need for a centre where organically cultivated produce would be available, catering to the needs of conscious consumers.”
The inauguration programme was attended by, Bajali District Development Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Bajali Zila Parisad Dr. Asraful Amin, Additional District Commissioners Urmi Medhi and Pallabi Gogoi, and EAC Pinky Debnath, SDO (Agriculture) Bhumidhar Dutta, ADO Tapan Gogoi and Manashi Baruah, Assistant Agriculture Inspector Sanjib Talukdar and Mahendra Das nominee of the Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass along with other officials also present in the event.
The farmers present at the sales centre included Himanshu Thakuria and Kamal Talukdar from Bajali Agro Farmers Producer Company, Khanin Sharma from Ramdhenu Agro Farmers Producer Company, and Chhatra Talukdar from Sarupeta. The locally available agricultural products at the center included millet grain, pumpkins, black rice, spinach, garlic chives, tomatoes, lettuce, banana, Labanya rice, Boka rice, Joha rice, and strawberries.
