The education fraternity of Tezpur and Khanamukh is in deep mourning following the untimely demise of Biswanath Dey, a revered Assistant Teacher of Khanamukh High School, who passed away on July 19, 2025 at the age of 58.

Dey, known for his simplicity, devotion to teaching, and tireless dedication to his students, awoke that morning as usual but soon complained of heaviness and chest pain. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, and due to the seriousness of his condition, referred to Guwahati. Despite the best efforts of the attending physicians, he succumbed around 5 PM, leaving his family, colleagues, and students in profound grief.

His mortal remains were brought back to his birthplace, Khanamukh near Tezpur, where hundreds of mourners, including former students, colleagues, and well-wishers, gathered to bid him a tearful farewell. The cremation took place at the Jia Bharali cremation ground amidst heartfelt tributes.

Born in 1967, Dey completed his early education at Khanamukh and graduated from Tezpur College. A self-made man who lost his parents at a young age, he rose through life with perseverance and sincerity. He joined Khanamukh High School as an Assistant Teacher and served there with distinction until his passing. Known for his deep subject knowledge, he never pursued private tuitions, instead offering extra coaching before examinations, believing in nurturing his students’ true potential.

A devout disciple of Thakur Anukul Chandra, Dey was deeply involved in community and religious work, maintaining close ties with Thakurbari Temple, Ramakrishna Seva Ashram Tezpur, Vivekananda Sevakendra Missionaries of Charity, and several local charitable organizations. Passionate about sports, he consistently encouraged students to balance academics with physical well-being and yoga.

His sudden death has left an irreplaceable void in Khanamukh’s academic and social fabric. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Various educational and social organizations across Tezpur and Khanamukh have expressed profound sorrow at his passing, remembering him as a compassionate teacher, mentor, and pillar of the community.

At a condolence meeting held at Khanamukh High School, colleagues and students fondly remembered Late B Dey’s invaluable contributions to education and society. Today on the solemn occasion of Adya Shraddha, I pay my heartfelt tributes, expressing deep respect and offering prayers for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
