DONGKAMUKAM: Along with the rest of the country, “Kala Diwas” was observed by the ruling BJP at its District Head Office at Ghilani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, West Karbi Anglong, on Wednesday.

The BJP activists observed a mark of protest against the Congress for the declaration of “Emergency” across the country exactly 50 years ago by the then Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi, on this day in 1975.

Former MP Horen Sing Bey attended the event as the main speaker and stated that “Kala Diwas” was a nationwide protest against the declaration of emergency 50 years ago. He said that during the 21-month-long period of emergency, the then Prime Minister, the late Indira Gandhi, murdered democracy by cancelling elections, suspending civil liberties, and arresting over 1 lakh protesters. He reminded that even journalists were not spared.

Bey also criticized the Gandhi scion, Rahul Gandhi, who, according to him, always attacked the ruling government, saying that it endangered the constitution, but his own grandmother had acted unconstitutionally.

Presided over by president BJP WKADC Radip Ronghang, the protest meet was attended by various board chairmen of KAAC and many supporters.
