KOKRAJHAR: Acknowledging significant developmental achievements in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Minister for Panchayat & Rural Development and Tourism, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, praised the exemplary leadership of BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro for the successful implementation of flagship schemes under the Panchayat & Rural Development (P&RD) Department.

“Under the leadership of CEM Pramod Boro, the BTC has achieved a milestone in implementing Panchayat and Rural Development schemes, effectively reaching marginalized and needy communities,” Minister Dass stated. “The performance of Kokrajhar, especially in comparison with many other districts in Assam, is highly encouraging. Other districts should take inspiration from the dedication and seriousness shown here in executing development schemes,” he added.

The minister made these remarks while reviewing the progress of key programmes under the P&RD Department, Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), and the Department of Tourism at the BTC Secretariat in Kokrajhar on Friday.

Minister Dass expressed satisfaction over the implementation of key schemes such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), noting their visible impact in improving rural livelihoods and infrastructure across the BTR.

During the ASRLM review, the minister focused on schemes including the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme, One District One Product (ODOP), and Lakhpati Abou. He emphasised the importance of marketing support under the ODOP initiative to boost rural entrepreneurship.

While reviewing initiatives under the Tourism Department, Minister Dass called for joint efforts by the P&RD and Tourism Departments to develop infrastructure, particularly in Raimona National Park. He appreciated the significant rise in foreign tourist arrivals in BTR, which increased from just 33 in 2021–22 to 3,975 in 2024–25. This rise, he said, reflects improved peace, stability, and robust infrastructure growth in the region. In total, 80,660 tourists visited BTR last year.

Addressing the gathering, BTC CEM Pramod Boro urged officers to work with commitment and innovation to ensure that the benefits of all government schemes reach the most deserving sections of society efficiently and effectively. He also appealed for continued support from the Government of Assam to accelerate development in the BTR.

The review meeting was attended by BTC Executive Members Dr. Dharma Narayan Das (Tourism), Dr. Nilut Swargiary (PHE), Political Adviser to the CEM Madhab Chandra Chetry, BTC Secretary Dhiraj Saud, and senior officials from both the P&RD and Tourism Departments.
