KOKRAJHAR: A special session of BTC Legislative Assembly was held on Thursday. This is the last session of the UPPL-BJP led coalition council government where members from ruling parties hailed the key initiatives of the Pramod Boro-led BTR Government to transform Bodoland while all eight Opposition members who attended the session staged a walkout protesting the imposition of the BTC Land and Revenue Regulation (Application, Adoption and Modification) Bill, 2025, without giving them time to study it.

In the special session, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro announced four new schemes which included CEM’s Drought Relief Programme, Bodoland Happiness Mission Scheme for the welfare of surviving mothers of Bodoland Movement martyrs, Bodoland Social Registrar Programme, and Bodoland Household Income Guarantee Scheme. Boro said that the Government of BTR would provide a support of Rs 1000 to the martyrs’ surviving mothers every month. He also said that the youths working in various private companies outside the state would be registered to support them in hours of need. He further announced three new communication centres in Chennai, Bangalore, and New Delhi Bodoland Houses for them to seek help. Also, families with annual income less than Rs 1,80,000 would be extended support under Bodoland Household Income Guarantee Scheme, he said. Boro thanked the Speaker, Katiram Boro, EMs, MCLAs, secretaries, and other officers for their dedication in the last five years of their government to carry forward the implementation of government schemes.

BTC Speaker Katiram Boro said that as many as 425 questionnaires were received in the last five years. He thanked all the members of BTCLA for their role in adopting and passing several rules.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Derhasat Basumatary said that there was no discussion over the BTC Land Revenue and Regulation (Application, Adoption and Modification) Bill, 2025 and the ruling forced the house to clap and pass the bill. He said that the passing of the bill without proper discussion was unacceptable and walked out of the House along with the Opposition leaders.
