DIBRUGARH: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday laid the foundation stone and performed bhumi pujan for the construction of a Centralized Community Kitchen at Dihing Khamti Playground in Dibrugarh. The facility aims to serve nutritious midday meals to school children under the PM POSHAN scheme, in alignment with the goals of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
The project, to be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore, is centrally funded and designed to ensure clean, quality, and hygienic meals for students of nearby schools, while also working towards eliminating child malnutrition and enhancing food security. The initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities, enhance skills in food planning and management, and promote awareness on food safety and nutrition among the community.
The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, a reputed NGO known for implementing large-scale midday meal programmes across India.
Sarma also attended the district-level awareness programme under the nationwide ‘Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan’ campaign at the Sri Sri Auniati Sakha Satra Auditorium in Dibrugarh.
The programme was organized by the District Administration, Dibrugarh, in coordination with the Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain). The campaign aims to create awareness and ensure benefit saturation among tribal communities by effectively implementing various government welfare schemes.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Ministers Dr Ranoj Pegu, Bimal Borah, Prasanta Phukan, Jogen Mohan, MLAs Chakradhar Gogoi, Binod Hazarika, Taranga Gogoi, and ASTDC Chairman Rituparna Baruah were among others present at the programme.
