KOKRAJHAR: In observance of World Environment Day, the District Administration of Chirang launched a series of impactful awareness initiatives on Thursday. A district-wide tree plantation drive was conducted across government offices and educational institutions, with enthusiastic participation from students, teachers and officials. ADC Silpika Kalita also took part in the drive, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and green development.

The highlight of the day was a compelling street play titled ‘Nodir Oxukh,’ performed by Prerona NGO. Jointly organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Forest Department and the District Administration, the performance aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution, especially its devastating impact on river ecosystems.

At Borobazar Higher Secondary School in Bijni, the street play began with an address by the Principal, who stressed the harmful effects of single-use plastic and encouraged eco-friendly habits. The Cultural Development Officer was also present and urged students and teachers to take an active role in environmental conservation.
