GOLAGHAT: Two separate incidents of violence were reported on Friday along the Assam-Nagaland border in Sector-D, DAB, leaving several people injured.

In the first incident, Suburat Nayak (20) of Merapani was assaulted by a Naga resident with the blunt side of a machete when he went to bring back his cow at Roni Basti under Bhandari Police Station, Nagaland. He was initially treated at Merapani CHC and later admitted to Swahid Kushal Konwar (SKK) Civil Hospital, Golaghat.

Following the incident, the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Golaghat, visited No. 2 Santipur, Kasomari, Udalipathar BOP, and nearby villages under Merapani PS on Friday night. They were accompanied by the ADC, Border Magistrate, Additional SP (HQ), DSP (HQ), OC Merapani PS, and personnel from the 142 Battalion CRPF.

In a separate incident, nine Bodo villagers from the border area had gone for a picnic at New Roni Bosti under Bhandari PS, Wokha District, when they were attacked by three Naga miscreants around 5:30 pm. One of the attackers opened fire with an airgun, injuring Prakash Boro (25) on his left buttock. The miscreants also assaulted Dhananjay Khakhlari (39) and Sibisat Basumatary (27). While the latter two were discharged after first aid at Merapani CHC, Boro was referred to SKK Civil Hospital and subsequently shifted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).

Bhandari Police apprehended the three accused miscreants on Friday night. They have been identified as Zakhai Sumi (32), Honito Yepthome (36), and another individual (34), all residents of Old Roni Bosti under Bhandari PS, Wokha District. A case has been registered at Bhandari Police Station.

To address the escalating tension, a Border Magistrate-level meeting was convened at the CRPF Sector Headquarters, Merapani, in the presence of the Border Magistrates of both Assam and Nagaland, SDPO Bhandari, the Sector Commander of CRPF, and the OC of Merapani PS.

Police sources confirmed that Nagaland authorities have assured strict legal action against the apprehended miscreants. Both state administrations, along with CRPF as a neutral force, are closely monitoring the situation. At present, officials have stated that the situation remains normal but under strict watch.
