AZARA: The 175 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), based at Rani on the western outskirts of Guwahati, has launched a 20-day advanced sewing training programme for women and young girls as part of its public welfare initiatives.
The training programme, which commenced on August 19, is being conducted for 12 economically disadvantaged women and young girls from the greater Rani area.
Addressing the inaugural function, 175 Battalion CRPF Commandant N N K Prasad said the force has been organising various public welfare programmes to strengthen relations between the police and the local community.
He said the battalion has undertaken several initiatives, including the distribution of sewing machines, bicycles, books and stationery, medical camps and health check-ups, distribution of medicines, repair of classrooms, construction of public toilets and school bathrooms, construction of passenger waiting sheds, installation of solar-powered street lights, sports events, skill development camps and coaching classes.
Second-in-Command Amit Sinha, Deputy Commandants Birat Kumar Singh and Amit Joshi, Senior Medical Officer Dr Ajay Kumar and other officers of the battalion were present at the programme.
The battalion is also conducting a one-month computer training programme for economically weaker students.
