Darrang DC Felicitates Laundry Worker’s Son for Securing NIT Rourkela Seat

Darrang district administration on August 14 warmly felicitated Rajen Baitha, Mangaldai’s inspiring “laundry boy,” who has secured admission to the prestigious NIT Rourkela.

MANGALDAI: Darrang district administration on August 14 warmly felicitated Rajen Baitha, Mangaldai’s inspiring “laundry boy,” who has secured admission to the prestigious NIT Rourkela. The felicitation ceremony was held at the office of the District Commissioner, Parag Kumar Kakaty, who presented Rajen with a laptop, a phulam gamocha, and a citation letter in the presence of his mother, Mina Devi.

Rajen, the only son of laundryman Ganesh Baitha and Mina Devi from Gerimari village near Mangaldai, overcame numerous hardships with grit and determination. While helping his father iron clothes, he pursued his academic dreams relentlessly. In 2024, he joined the OIL Super 30 program at Nagaon, a platform supporting underprivileged students aspiring for IITs and NITs through JEE.

With unwavering effort, Rajen scored 49 marks and secured an All India SC rank of 3625 in JEE Mains and Advanced, earning a seat in NIT Rourkela’s B.Tech program in Industrial Design.

Rajen is scheduled to leave Mangaldai on August 18 with his father for the admission process on August 20, 2025. His extraordinary journey, earlier highlighted in detailed features by The Sentinel, continues to inspire countless others to chase their dreams against all odds.

The event was attended by Mangaldai legislator Basanta Das, Additional District Commissioner Dhruba Jyoti Das, Assam Skill University’s DPM and Grievance Redressal Officer Deep Jyoti Baishya, along with Mangaldai Media Circle representatives Bhargab Kumar Das and Hitesh Hazarika.
