KOKRAJHAR: The Dularai Boro Harimu Afat (DBHA) on Tuesday organized a one-day workshop on the uniformity of Bodo folk 'Bagurumbha' dance at the auditorium hall of Dr Sabha Brahma Music and Fine Art College, Kokrajhar. Eminent personalities, cultural experts, litterateurs and leaders of cultural associations of Kokrajhar and Goalpara attended the workshop for finalization of dance movement of 'Bagurumbha' and lyrics for inclusion in the syllabus of university curricula.
Talking to reporters, the president of DBHA, Jogeswar Brahma said they organized the special workshop on dance form of 'Bagurumbha' to finalize the uniformity of its movement and lyrics. He said the DBHA could have finalized the standardization of dance form of 'Bardwisikla', 'Rwnswndri', 'Dao twi lwngnai', 'Kwjwma Fonai', 'Jarapagla' etc. but 'Mwsaglangnai' of Bagurumbha is yet to be finalized for which the association organized the workshop. He also said the standardization of Bagurumbha could not been settled in the last workshop held at Bathoupuri in Guwahati last year.
Meanwhile, the president of Boro Harimu Songrwikha arw Jougathai (BHSJ), Ansula Gwra Bodosa of Goalpara, while talking to reporters, said the uniformity of dance movement and lyrics of folk Bagurumbha dance was utmost necessary. He said there was little difference of rhythm of Bagurumbha between Kokrajhar in the north and Goalpara in the south, which should be made uniform. He said the Bagurumbha dance form and theory was taken from the art of Ostad Kamini Kr. Narzary but there were small differences which had to be settled. He also said the natural form of Bagurumbha, its true meaning and rhythm should not be corrupted in the attempt of uniformity. He hoped that the small differences would be settled with the views from experts and scholars as early as possible.
In the workshop, dancers from Kokrajhar and Goalpara presented their rhythm on Bagurumbha and its lyrics step by step before the experts to settle down the differences but failed to arrive at a decision on certain points. The association has decided to organize the next workshop involving larger representation. The vice president and assistant secretary of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, (BSS) Ramela Islary and Jwngsar Narzary, advisor of DBHA Rahendra Brahma and other experts were present in the workshop.
