DHEKIAJULI:  Bikram Bothra, a young entrepreneur from Dhekiajuli and Director of Askaran Binjraj Pvt. Ltd., proudly represented India at the prestigious BRICS Summit held from July 5 to 7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Remarkably, he was the only delegate from Assam and the entire Northeast to accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the global convention, marking a historic moment for the region.

At a press conference held on Saturday, Bothra shared his enriching experience and key takeaways from the summit, emphasizing the immense opportunities for India’s Northeast on the global stage.

“Several important topics like climate change, trade and investment, and the promotion of Assam’s tea, jute, muga silk, and local handicrafts were discussed. I strongly advocated for these unique products to be promoted globally,” said Bothra.

He further highlighted that environmental conservation remained one of the most significant aspects of the summit, particularly discussions surrounding the carbon neutrality project. “The lesser our carbon footprint, the better it is for humanity. Sustainable development is the only way forward,” he added.

A major area of discussion was alternative sources of energy, where India’s leadership in solar energy was widely appreciated by other member countries. “The world recognizes India as a frontrunner in solar energy. This will undoubtedly become the backbone of our future economy,” Bothra remarked.

Speaking on trade, Bothra noted that India’s retail sector held immense potential, and collaborations with Latin American markets could open up vast opportunities. He also shared how interactions with diplomats, ministers, and prime ministers from across the globe provided invaluable insights into international policymaking and entrepreneurship.

During his visit, he met Bishwajit Garg, a youth from Tezpur who completed his higher education at Tezpur University and currently serves as a senior banking executive at EXIM Bank in Brazil, a meeting he described as a proud moment for Assam.

Bothra also expressed his desire to meet Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Industries Minister to share his global observations and advocate for the international promotion of bamboo products and sustainable innovations from the state, under the ‘Vocal for Local to Make it Global’ initiative.

“Our rich Assamese culture and tradition must be celebrated and shared with the world. It’s time we think global while remaining rooted in our local identity,” he concluded.

In the press meet, Chandan Mal Bothra, Chief Managing Director of Askaran Binjraj Pvt. Ltd., and his wife were also present.

Bikram Bothra’s participation in the BRICS Summit has not only brought honour to Assam and the Northeast but also opened new avenues for regional products, sustainability, and youth-led entrepreneurship on the global platform.
