DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi (DHSK) College (Autonomous), Dibrugarh, proudly hosted the first-ever meeting of the Board of Studies (BoS) of the Department of Political Science on July 8, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
The DHSK College was recently granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of ten years, commencing from the academic session 2025–2026. In pursuance of this newly-acquired academic autonomy and as part of the broader initiative to establish an autonomous governance framework, the college has begun constituting Boards of Studies for all departments.
The BoS meeting of the Department of Political Science officially launched this process, signifying the beginning of DHSK College’s transition to full academic autonomy.
The meeting was held in the presence of Dr SK Saikia, Principal of the College, Dr JP Phukan, Member Secretary of the Academic Council, and was chaired by Dr Lamkholal Doungel, Head of the Department and Chairperson of the BoS. It witnessed active participation of all internal and external members of the Board.
The external members included Prof Dolly Phukan (University Nominee), Dr Jitu Borah (External Member), Krishna Kanta Saikia (Industry and Allied Sector Representative), and Dr Rashmi Dutta (External Member), along with all internal faculty members of the department.
One of the primary agendas of the meeting was the formulation and adoption of the syllabus for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The syllabus was prepared in alignment with the structure prescribed by the parent university, Dibrugarh University, and is set to be implemented from the academic session 2025–2026.
After detailed deliberations, the BoS unanimously took its resolutions. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a renewed sense of academic commitment and responsibility, as the department moved forward in shaping a robust and holistic curriculum under the autonomous framework.
The successful conduct of this BoS meeting set a benchmark for other departments and underscores DHSK College’s preparedness to function as an autonomous institution from the forthcoming academic session.
