DHUBRI: A play titled ‘Bastaber Ananda’ (The Joy of Reality) based on the adverse impact of mobile phones on students and to create awareness was staged at the auditorium of Shankardev Shishu Bidya Niketan in Dhubri on Saturday. The event was organized by Nrityangan, a cultural and social organization.

The play commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony and an introductory speech by the president of Nrityangan, Dr Pratima Niyogi, where she explained the purpose behind the play.

Following this, President of the school management committee, Dr Dwipendra Kumar Adhikari, and Principal of the school, Narayan Chandra Nath, spoke at length on the misuse of mobile phones and its impact on the minds of students. The play highlighted the alarming issues arising from excessive mobile phone usage in our daily lives, affecting not only individuals but society and the entire world.

It portrayed how addiction to mobile phones has become a common issue not only among children but also among adults, showing how nowadays, parents and elders remain constantly engaged with their phones during leisure time, which sets a wrong example for children.

As a result, children no longer enjoy outdoor games, spend time with friends, or study together. They are trapped in the virtual world of mobile screens.

This excessive screen time is leading to loss of eyesight at an early age, reduced brain function, and both physical and mental stress globally. Moreover, children are losing their beautiful and joyful childhoods. Therefore, it is essential for parents and all elder family members to take a pledge to bring about change — to keep children away from these harmful habits and help them build a healthier and happier life.
