DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest on Tuesday condemning the alleged attack on Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma by Congress workers in Golaghat on Monday. As part of the protest, the BJP organized a massive rally from its district headquarters to Chowkidinghee Chariali.
The rally witnessed participation from Assam Minister Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh BJP district President Dulal Bora, MLA Chakradhar Gogoi, Dibrugarh Mayor Saikat Patra, Deputy Mayor Ujjal Phukan, DDA Chairman Ashim Hazarika, along with hundreds of BJP workers and office-bearers. State Cabinet Minister Prasanta Phukan strongly condemned the incident, terming it an ‘attempt to murder,’ and called for heightened security for the Chief Minister. Referring to the incident in which Congress workers allegedly hurled bottles at the Chief Minister’s convoy in Golaghat, Phukan described the act as not only condemnable but also dangerous and criminal in nature.
